I invite you to join me in my 30 days of going Vegan. This blog will chronicle my daily challenges and musings of going from an omnivore diet to a vegan diet.
I recently completed an article for Meeting Professionals International Magazine: One+. This article was on meal planning for vegan, vegetarian and macrobiotic diets. As an omnivore, I was simultaneously fascinated and perplexed by this lifestyle choice. I mean why in the world would anyone give up a lovely Fillet Mignon or a tasty Chicken Oscar?? And even more perplexing why would you give up cheese? Mmmm, there is nothing better than a tasty sharp cheddar with a slice of apple.
However, I still found the three diets very fascinating. I found so many testimonials on how much better and healthier people felt by following a balanced vegan, vegetarian or macrobiotic diet. What I found the most fascinating about all three diets; they are all based on the principles of balance- the yin and yang of food. Balance in what and how much we consume, how we live our lives and the lasting affect we have on the environment around us- on a macro and micro scale. And let's face it, we could all use a little more balance in our lives.
I have decided to take on this challenge for a number of reasons:
1. Perhaps to gain some much needed balance
2. To see if I feel different after a month of food cleansing.
3. As a food and beverage planner, gain some respect and insight into the needs of a good portion of the food eating population.
I will chronicle my daily meals and challenges on this blog. I invite you to offer insight, words of wisdom, humor, recipes, etc.
